If you happened to use the Open Read-Only option instead of the Open Anyway
option, you will not be able to use the Save option but will have to Save
As a different filename. If you do use the Open Anyway option you should

I am not sure what was really happening to my file, but I have also had
duplicates appear in some cases if I needed to replay log files or
whatever. It hasn't happened often or been repeatable, so I have not
researched it.

The condition I just mentioned should not normally cause the SLR memory to
be retained when the transaction is lost, but I have occasionally lost a

What is the source of your import files? Once the data in in a data file
it stays there and can be read by the next GnuCash release similar to a
document that can be read by a document editor. The import process would
only be a one-time thing.

I would suggest at most one or two years of history for your GnuCash file.
Then the one-account-at-a-time procedure is not so overwhelming.
I think, but I am not sure, that Quicken will continue to work off-line if
you want to review older history in the future.

GnuCash can do it, but it is awkward and very difficult to verify that it
