Lynlee,
It sounds lovely. I know when I made a christening gown for my daughter to go
with my husband's faith (Catholic-I'm not), it had to be primarily white, I had
very very subtle undertones of lavender in the underskirts and embroidery.
From what little I recall of Maori patterns,
Having just returned from Norwescon and finishing that masquerade, I'll be
working several new things:
1-new 14th Cen. garments for Nayeli as at almost 2 she's out-grown everything
from last year
2-rewriting my paper on the use of mi-parti in the Romance of Alexander
3-obtaining the rest of
*chuckle* I'm in luck only if one of my classes isn't scheduled against it,
since I'm teaching some classes too. :)
I'll definitely watch for it though!

What I am looking for is help with acquiring appropriate swatches of fabric and
fibers that approximate a medieval fabric, but at a more conventionally
budgetable cost.
Having even a piece that is say 2 x 3 to touch and see the weave is easier to
learn from than a photo from a book, plus we

I'm looking for help with creating a fabric swatch book geared to help me
understand what modern fabrics would be closer in look or feel to recreating
historical garments, especially in the medieval period,

I use it, it allows me to help keep track of friends and 'family'. To
help with maintaining it though, I tend to ignore almost all of the
application requests and if I am amused by a test, hit skip when it asks to
pick friends to share it with.
It was great to see a couple of H-Cost faces to
I won't be getting in until very late Thursday (had to work part of tomorrow,
drat it all...not that I'm getting much done in the heat up here in

Hope to catch up with folks on Friday/Saturday though

This is my first CoCo as well, so the hints are nice. I'll look forward to
seeing/meeting a few more H-Cost folks in addition to the joy of
seeing my Loscon friends more than once this year.

My roommate gave me a small fabric sewing kit reputed to be an antique
Victorian one. It's a dark blue velvet with an old gold silk-type fabric

I was given two lengths of fabric I *wanted* during my recent trip to the LA

My thanks to all who've given me input. The hardest part about going into this
is feeling confident enough to get started. I'll be getting together with my
sister in law just before Yule, and will get to look at what patterns she has
to start with, so hopefully I can be working on the
Greetings folks!
It seems my costuming inspiration has come back with a vengeance. After much
lurking and dithering, I'm going to be making two Victorian (or early
Edwardian?) outfits in preparation for CostumeCon 26, but need a little help
with details.

Many thanks to all who have given some input on this. There are about 14 of us

Greetings everyone!
I'm popping out of lurkdom after Worldcon and Loscon to ask for help while
setting up another group set of costumes for next year's Friday Night Fun.
Wonder of wonders, they are pulling me out of medieval era clothing/costume and
into making more early-to-mid 20th century
Thank you for the reminder Dawn! I've been working on some embroidery stuff
for mine, and have a purple package from SaraGrace already (arrived on the

Lynn, I have to agree on the vote for LibraryThing.com. I'd been hearing
about it from several friends and after the expensive re-purchasing of 2
research books the weekend before the H-Cost discussion, went in and took the
plunge to actually do something with my books.

The lecture that Robin is discussing right now is in Oregon, not too far from
Portland, as the crow flies. I'm carpooling with 2 others down from the
Seattle-Tacoma area to attend.
Hey, anyone else willing to have a Red H or something so that we can identify
ourselves at the lecture? I know

Thank you for the quote resource Susan.
I need to work on my tailoring skills to do the Ivonava costume. A Centauri or
Narn costume would be fun also, but I enjoy her attitude. (BOOM!)
