I believe Classical Syriac refers to the ancient and medieval literary and liturgical language, and Modern Syriac refers to the modern forms of Neo-Aramaic that are still spoken by some groups of people in the Middle East today (Chaldean and Assyrian Christians, some Kurdish Jews etc.) _
