Hi Terri,
The crystals form during cold winter months, usually during shipping or can
form if the Hematoxylin 7211 is stored in a cold environment. They also form
due to the Mordant being put into solution at it's saturation point.
The crystals have no adverse effect on the stain itself. If
Yes, they can be left overnight in 95% alcohol before staining. We do at times
and have not had any report of altered quality.

Good Morning, We are having a debate about what a Lab assistant can and can
not do in the State of Florida. So, those of you in Florida please weigh in.
Can they make alcohol dilutions and use those alcohols to:
1) Change an automatic stainer
2) Change the tissue processor
We store both blocks and slides on-site for 10 years which is regulated by CAP.

We had a rubber stamp made that we use on the heading of the breast when we get
the specimen. It looks like this : Time Tissue Obtained:_
We soak our molds in Xylene for @ 2hrs, then soak in 100% alcohol for @ 30
minutes( with occasional stirring to clear the xylene), then rinse in H2O, let
dry(laid out) and spray with the mold release.

Mary,
We run both protocols on the same stainer, however, each protocol has it own
set of reagents except for the common water wells and the two xylenes at the
end before the final xylene. We have the Leica ST 5020, which has 36 wells not
including the 2 oven wells.
Hope this helps.
We in Histology do the processing and preparation of the fluids.
