Hello Jacqueline
I am going thru old histo net messages and was wondering if you had any new
insight on the silver ISH for HPV testing on the Ventana ultras, my lab would
like to validate it, but I am worried about the consistency of the silver
staining.

I'm wondering how others dispose of their silver waste from a GMS stain? We
have always collected and disposed of it separately from our other chemical
waste. We have a 55 gallon drum where we dispose of formalin, alcohol and
xylene, and I was told by several people that we could just add the
Hi All. Happy Monday!
Would anyone share how they collect, store, and dispose of silver waste from
manual special stains such as GMS, Melanin Fontana-Masson, and Calcium Von
Kossa?
Thanks in advance!

Tasha,
1. Try 10% Potassium Iodide (KJ) for 5-10 minutes, spot will turn to yellow as
lemon,
then apply 10% Sodum Thiosulfate, wipe it and then talc powder and dry.
2. 15% sodium chloride with some drops hydrochloric acid, then apply 10% Sodum
Thiosulfate,
wash and dry.

I'm working with a lab that stained cat gonads with Warthin Starry.
We're looking for Bartonella bacteria. In the first batch that was

filled with silver.

Hi Histonetters,
We want to do a degeneration-selective silver stain on slide-mounted
formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded monkey brain sections. It looks like most
of the kits/protocols are for free floating tissue sections or chunks of
tissue that are stained and then sectioned. Has anyone used

I wonder anyone can send me the protocol for such kind of silver staining -
