Russ,
I figured there'd be more. An old teacher of mine used to tell us to grip
the ground with our toes and pray.

Hi everybody
Thank you so much for help with finding some trios. Sorry for not explaining
what I meant by "classical." I had in mind the classical period in music. I
know there is Trio by Haydn for horn, violin and cello but...on the same
concert I was asked to play also Brahms Trio and I try to fi

Hello members,
I was hoping that someone might be able to guide me to a reliable, honest and
reasonably priced supplier of "authentic" orchestral backing cd's for horn solo's.
Playing French horn was once my bread and butter. I am easing myself back into it but
now feel ready to take on horn pi

Didn't John Wunderlich record it. Or was that which broke his recorder?

to still be in print.

Hi Robert,
There is a trio sonata by Telemann for alto recorder (or flute or violin), horn, and
basso continuo (piano/harpsichord with optional cello on the bass line. None of the
parts are difficult. The horn part ranges from middle C (written horn in F) up an
octave and a 5th. There are a cou

Luiza Raab asked for "classical compositions". This is not a
musicological question, Jonathan. My naming "classical époque plus
minus" was just invented to cover what "most people" mean, when they ask
for "classical compositions". Most of them never ask for Ligeti,
Berkeley or Schoenberg ! Got it ?

But the question was about "classical", but "classical" in the original
meaning of the word : classical epoque plus minus, not the new meaning
of "classical" to differenciate it from POP or Jazz or LIGHT.

While we're on this topic, does anyone happen to know of any trios that
could be played on horn, bass and flute (or recorder)?? Some of the horn
cello violin trios might work but the violin parts could be fairly awkward

Yes, this is a great piece - particularly the last movement. I have played
it often, and it is always appreciated by audiences.

Hi Hans,
Thank you for your greetings - albeit from 11,000 metres!
I don't know anything about the inner dynamics and politics in your section.
All I know is that when we do Bolero here we do it in the manner I have
described. After all, it is most often performed in popular concerts, which

Nobody else has mentioned it yet, but there is a wonderful trio for horn,
violin and piano by Lennox Berkeley. I have an old recording of it played by
Dennis Brain, Manoung Parikian and Colin Horsley.
It is Berkeley's centenary this year.

First, as a principal I have not to ass-lick anybody in the section.
Second, as a principal I have not to ask anybody for help.
Third, as a principal I do rather help THEM out if they have
