[Hornlist] Amusing copycat music themes - NHR

2009-05-29 Thread Larry Jellison
The church orchestra than I am in is getting ready to play "Part Three: Rejoice! The Lord is in You", by Camp Kirkland. At measure 143, the rhythm, melody, and accompaniment breaks out into a new theme that sounds so much like the introductory theme to the Village People's "YMCA". After a few

For real fun, try looking at an LED alarm clock while playing different pedal tones. On some notes the numbers pulse, and on other notes you can see the order that the machine draws the lines that it uses to make numbers. Electricity in the US operates at 60 hertz (cycles per second), and at

2009-05-29 Thread Kathy Lowe
Try it while rehearsing with an entire ensemble in an non-airconditioned basement with a low ceiling and several ceiling fans going. The resulting warbling from everyone will drive you bananas. It got a little better when we turned off the one directly over us (the sound, not the heat). Kathy

[Hornlist] Looking for used Holton Eb Main Tuning Slide to fit H177 horn. & 651M Bb Single horn

2009-05-29 Thread John Dutton
The eb slide for a Holton 177 could be manufactured by a competent repairman. It is unnecessary anyway. If you can't transpose the most basic of keys then you can't play opera at all. An E crook might be a better idea if you needed such a crutch-don't forget that you'd have to change the B slide

Hello all: Please pardon the crass self-promotion but I wanted to throw my blog address into the ring for IHS '09. I'm going to give it a shot and I hope you will be able to see the events as I do. I'm not playing horn this year so I should be able to wonder all over. A roving reporter if

This comes from JC Ludlow: Sorry to be posting this request last-minute, but... I'm going to Macomb, and I had planned to drive out. I live in northern New Jersey and I realize that's one heck of a haul, but I never thought that it would be so difficult to find some one to go with me. I've w
