Most conductors of amateur groups stop everytime they want to make a single
comment
Recently had a most pleasant experience in this regard. I'm in the US,
and we had a Russian guest conductor who knew about 20-words of
English, and these he used most sparingly. I was wiped out after each
I was once threatened with dismissal for a deliberate set of clams the 3rd horn

I will not say here what happened to that 3rd horn
Please, you can go ahead and tell us where his head is buried so his

Y'know they found Jimmy Hoffa, right?

I think Mozart's too pretty, the harmonies are simple, and the music is
too predictable.
For something to think about, Arthur Rubenstein (not too bad a piano
player) said,
Mozart: Too simple for children; too difficult for adults.
I can't think of any composer whose every work bowls me

very sharp.
Way back when didn't Conn make longer main tuning slides for those who need
to tune the horn lower?
Yeah, they were called Eb slides!

I'm not aware of any makers nowadays who use no taper on the rotors. There
are some who have cylindrical rotors with tapered rotor bearings, though.
I asked Johannes Finke (of Finke horns) about this after reading (on
the Finke website) how they make their valves. Herr Finke told me that

The headline in today's local newspaper sez: Campaigns reach crescendo
for Iraqis
What do you think of the notion of 'reach'ing a 'crescendo' in this
context?
It's really great when editorial dumk*pfs foul-up the language they
are paid to use. Phrases like comprised of really get me going. A
But what will you do, if the singer comes in too early or too late

Yeah, right! Hold yer breath while waiting for THAT to happen. (chuckle)

Why not:
Unprecedented first time ever world premiere!
Oh boy! Which galaxy?
I'd really like to make it to the premiere, but if it's Thursday
evening, then I have a pre-arranged appointment in another dimension.
So, might I pre-postpone in advance beforehand and just pre-plan to

But, then, you must have played the band transcription of Till
Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks in which the arranger put all the themes =
back ON THE BEAT
So far I have missed-out on that opportunity and, now that I am aware
of it, will endeavor--vehemently--to continue thusly.

Well, it's a big world out there. Besides; what's an eight rest or two

Years ago, I was in a VERY good band and the librarian passed out the
parts to La Gazza Ladra. As principal horn, I dutifully dispatched
all my afterbeats in great anticipation of that little finger-fumbling
solo (though now it was going to be in in Eb, down a half-step) that
was coming up at any

At least here in the USA, I find all the office supply stores carry

And the mass between will not inhale nor exhale
Here in the US, we had a President who said he didn't inhale. Perhaps
we should study this idea more closely.
