I have always enjoyed the conversations on this
website, but I have refrained from responding my opinions. The latest negative
comments regarding DCI has hit me on a personal level. The reason is that drum
& bugle corps, while maybe not the perfect

I will say that as a PR tool to reach young people, DCI works quite well. It has the
competetiveness necessary to get kids involved that might not want to be associated
with Your Father's Oldsmobile or symphonic music. Also, it is physically quite

I refer to DCI often in a tongue in cheek manner. I have many friends who have
participated in DCI, some of them are even musical. One of my friends in order to
save his chops was a Drum Captain. DCI can be at its finest an experience that will
leave you lasting happy memories.
And here I thought they were used to draw fire away from the soldiers.
