Today was the funeral service for our esteemed colleague, Walter Lawson.
Yesterday I contacted Heidi Vogel (Executive Secretary of the IHS) and asked
her to present to the IHS advisory board my request to form a Walter Lawson
Memorial Scholarship.
Heidi agreed
I first played with Walter Lawson in 1956, at a summer band concert in
Baltimore. Many times I rode with him to IHS workshops. The understanding was
that Walter would drive, but I had to stay awake. We always talked about the
old days and our mutual acquaintances. When he talked about the intric
I was very sad to hear of Walter's passing. Everyone that ever met him knows
that he was an outstanding gentleman.
I first met him at a Horn Workshop that we had at West Virginia University in
Morgantown, WV in the early 70's. I learned so much from him about horn
acoustics; knowledge that I

We have lost a good, very good friend of our trade and a
true gentleman.
Walter Lawson made me a tool to prepare the leadpipe to fit
for the American mouthpieces, but he never charged me
anything for that. RIP , Walter !
