You are using HPOJ and it works or are you using hplip?

Has the printer worked before?
Can you disconnect the printer run: tail -f /var/log/messages
and plug the printer back in and post any output in /var/log/messages?

I deleted all the hplip software i had installed on the system, removed
the printer from CUPS as a usb:// devi
At some point we will go through a windows to linux configuration and
have some instructions--however this is not currently supported.

Depending on the printer, the HPLIP software should be used for your
Linux system to view the ink levels and so forth.
