A while back I looked at a production control challenge here that seemed
to have one obvious solution: mount an AIX file on USS and edit it with
ISPF. I

Ginnie,
I do not know of a way to do this without doing what I would consider
abnormal things with the SMS ACDS configuration.
I still do not understand *WHY* you are trying to this by management
class. Are there specific datasets you are trying to handle
separately?
Maybe if you explained

There is a commercial one from ASI. I haven't dealt

Also, while I haven't used the mainframe version, I
know there is an os/390 port of INFO-Zip. It's freeware, including free for
commercial applications.
It's also 'functionally stabilised'.
They haven't done any work on it since OS/390.
Nothing, with z/OS.
And, there's no support.

Yes, IP drops packets. But also, yes, TCP keeps track of it all and requests retransmissions.
Not according to the traces.
If TCP/IP is so robust, why has it NEVER happened in 7 years under SNA (how
long we've had the TN3270 client we use), and it always happens under

I obviously can't comment on traces I haven't seen. I can say that TCP
provides guaranteed delivery ... if you (and your software) are willing to cope

We have no guaranteed delivery! Period!
And, the only change was SNA to TCP/IP.

I have a RACF profile defined for the master catalog CATALOG.Z17.MASTER
which has a UACC of READ with group TSG in the access list with ALTER. The
profile is owned by group TSG. The profile is defined as Generic although it

Assuming all your group SYS1 users don't also have the OPERATIONS

the master catalog. Perhaps they have access to that.

I'm sorry for the following vent of spleen, but I am sufficiently pissed
off to let go with both barrels here, having just spent an hour looking
for yet another IBM web page that has moved. With the old link no longer
valid and no redirection to the new address.

I know that this library is only updated by one job each day and I'd put an
