Ed,
I would use a Service Oriented Architecture approach.

Hi

Ken,
Yes, many, many years ago the numbers were in the range of 2500 - 3000 or more.
It is when IBM decided that they can make money and completely control the
content with their own conferences that SHARE attendance lowered. Many execs
see the IBM tag and immediately think it must be better,
Although there may be some 'success' stories the issue I have with most
vendors is where they tout - We migrated this company off the mainframe
and save 10,000+ MIPS. In reality they probably moved a small
application of about 1000 - 2000 MIPS which happened to be the last one
on the mainframe.
Timothy,
I agree with the notion that CICS is a great product, and as many of
those who know me I am one of the biggest supporters of CICS you will

Was there a sing-along in Anaheim?

John,
Not sure what happened. Kristin Harper and the zNextgen were involved
in the sing along but not sure what the deal was this time. From the
CICS Project I can say it was a lame 'Farewell SCIDS'.

The SHARE handouts are available on the website in the proceedings
section. That is if the presenter uploaded them.

SHARE attendance was higher than the last summer meeting (Boston) and a bit
smaller than this past spring (Anaheim).

Attendence was up from Boston and close to Anaheim. It seems up from past
years and the sessions were very good and well attended.

If you are looking for something to 'web enable' and SOA your mainframe take a
look at Ivory Service Architect from GT Software. IMHO MUCH better than HATS
and does a LOT more than just screen scraping.

Check out a product called Ivory Server for Batch from GT Software. It
is part of their Ivory suite which is extremely easy to use and very

It is all relative. Down here I consider 'freezing' any time it gets
