I said that Alan probably knows what the real reason is that IBM will not
license z/VM V5 on Flex to commercial users. He may not know, but that is
unlikely. IBM will not tell their customers why they will not sell them a
license to run z/VM V5.

Thanks. You are confirming what I have been finding out.
I appreciate the info.

How about:

I am trying to copy a VM DDR created tape.
I am trying to use Z/OS to copy from a 3480 to a 3590 tape.
Can i do this?
I need this in a disaster.
What JCL should I use?
I tryed DITTO but it did not work.
We are having a slight problem when attempting to configure the OSA ICC
on our new Z890.
We can configure 0-15 ports just fine. It's the 16-31 ports that are a
problem. Port 16-31 are not showing up on the configuration screen. How
do I get ports above 15 configured?
Forgive me if my question is

Sorry for the delay in responding to this. You might look into using
the ALTTAPE parm to have DDR "spill" to another tape volume
automagically. This works, but unfortunately it ties up TWO tape drives
for what is essentially a single tape dump "stream".
I modified DDR so the EOT condition trigge

You don't get a choice. There is no basic mode on these boxes.

Hello Tony,
This is a 'done-deal'. I am not impressed with our EMC support
people.
I do like the box. And there are good support people out in
Pittsburgh that have stepped up and gotten us the info.

As you well know the Flex is a z/Architecture box. Many developers run z/VM V5
on it today. This you know also. IBM will not allow commercial users to license
z/VM V5 on a Flex machine. You probably know the reason but for some reason you
will not tell your customers the truth.

With the z890 I just stopped using V=R. I saw no appreciable difference.

Review the option of a Flex-Cub based dasd box. You could then add tape
and other emulation if you wanted to. Should be cheaper than the EMC path.

Hello Everyone,
I appreciate all the info, hints, and tips from everyone.
My game plan has been altered a little.
We are on a MP3000 using EMC Symetrix and Internal dasd.

required maintenance (I can
