I think I can clear my question a little. I have been told by the DB2 team
that they believe they think they have read somewhere in the zOS 1.10 software
and/or hardware engineering information that DB2 use of Hipersockets is
different on the Z9 hardware (which we are on) compared to the Z10
We have used db2 Connect on zLinux for several years. We recently
upgraded to z10 from z9 and saw no changes. We also upgraded from 5.2
to 5.4 in the process. We do use hipersockets and a vswitch.

I believe that I may have found something that could be causing my quick
shutdowns. I issued the following commands with results :
Q SHUTDOWN
System shutdown time: 30 seconds
Q SIGNAL SHUTDOWN
System default shutdown signal timeout: 1200 seconds
Even though I enter the following command :
CP
According the HELP CPSET SHUTDOWNTIME (on 5.4):
1. This command takes effect only when the WITHIN interval or BY hh:mm:ss
options of the SHUTDOWN command are used. If these options are not
specified on the command, the SHUTDOWNTIME and SIGNAL SHUTDOWN times are
added together and that is the

Hi Folks,
I have a couple of questions on using IBM's RACF as an ESM for Linux
(z/Series or otherwise)?
1. There is NO version of the RACF product that runs on Linux. The
RACF server must be licensed for and run on a supported platform (e.g.
z/OS
1) Correct
2) No prereqs - not sure about zOS though
3) I believe it's just implemented as an LDAP server and didn't think
anything special ran on Linux

Hi Folks,
Just wondering how others set up a 2nd level z/VM and get networking going
without requiring any more OSA's or drastic changes on 1st level... I want
to test out TCPIP and VSWITCH's, but not sure how to get started. Pointers
to any redbooks would be welcome as well -- I can't seem to find this
Simplest is to just dedicate 3 spare osa addresses to the guest. There's lots
of ways to do it though and I'm sure this list will respond with all of them :)

I connect my 2nd level VM to the first level vswitch. 2nd level VM just
thinks it's an OSA.

Hi Alan,
Thank You - the references to ITDS were a bit confusing. You've cleared
that up totally (as you always do!). :)

I see reference to IBM Tivoli Directory Server, but it's unclear if
this
runs
on the Linux instances or the z/Series RACF hosts.
