Actually, CP will read the allocation map when the device is
attached to SYSTEM, which could happen at IPL, or by command.

The other posts showed how to give a dasd resource to a running zLinux
guest.Well for minidisks that is.
Of course if the disk is normally dedicated, you can just use the ATTACH
command.
But after that, what then?
If you don't know, attached is a document I use (SUSE 10 SP 2), which adds
Hello all,
I had been asked to make a backup copy of the SYSRES volume,
volulme id 54GRES, and was provide with a DASD
address of 6027 and a new volume id of 54GBRS.
I did a CPFMTXA on 6027 with the volume id of 54GBRS and
formatted the entire volume as PERM.
I then ran DDR and
Are you referring to cloning a system or just providing a backup of
the RES volume?
Thank you,

Yes - relabel the volume.. it was unnecessary to label and format the new
volume in the first place - you could have just done the DDR and run CPFMTXA
to relabel it.
If you really needed to IPL from it - you'd likely need to change the volume
to 54GRES first.. (and relabel the 'real' 54GRES
