Hi Graham,
You can find OSA codes in
System z10, System z9 and Eserver zSeriesOpen Systems Adapter-Express
Customer's Guide and Reference SA22-7935-10 .. The OSA is probably not
cabled up correctly.. :-)
OSA Reject Codes Any of the following OSA return codes can be included in a

Sorry for the confusion. My logical operator is the default LGLOPR. OPSVM

Look at the invoice when the box was purchased or placed on maintenance.
On an individual drive, on the DS6800 you might look for a log file for when
that dasd was last created. Lots of log files there.
But there is no date, that I'm aware of, on the header, vtoc, allocation map,
etc.

If you are talking about reassigning disks to another system, a CMS format is
good enough.
If you are decommissioning the drives then talk to the vender or have them
crushed.
A DASD subsystem isn't easy to destroy anymore.
1. You have pools of extents, and not all extents may be used, but
On my very very last day at work at Sine Nomine, guess what I finally
got, courtesy of David and Margarete?
That's right. A pony.
Actually, quite a few ponies.

Is anyone using a VM IODF? If so why?

Is this a loaded question? Some of my customers use a VM IODF to load the
IO definitions into the hardware from zVM. VM/HCD can be used to do
this..

Tried it once. The I/O detection code in CP is so much superior and is
so much easier to use and manage that I went back and haven't looked
back since.
The only place it really makes sense is in shops where the entire IO
config is controlled from zOS and they aren't comfortable with
Not a loaded question. IODF, not IOCP.. Our hardware IOCP is built
and loaded by our z/OS brethern... z/OS always needs an IODF, but VM?

I run all my IO Gen's from the z/OS side for 3 reasons.
1) z/OS needs both the IOCDS and IODF to be in sync for dynamic gens.
2) VM senses the hardware changes and needs nothing in addition to the
sensed environment
3) I grew up on MVS/OS390/z/OS and am still learning VM.
I love the fact that I
Because z/OS just does it better.
At Footstar we had VM and MVS running under VM with good results.
