In a normal production environment this is not such an insurmountable
problem.
The problem is this is a test lab, and I don't necessarily know what happens
to the different disk volumes.
I do know what addresses my system disks are on, but there may be copies
that someone was testing with floating

We code stuff in the SYSTEM CONFIG to control which lpar sees which volumes at
IPL time. It does require some work to set up and to maintain it.

As far as I know z/VM can't play with z/OS and PAVs managed by WLM. When WLM
"moves" around an alias it most tell all lpars in the sysplex what has
happened. All lpars must report back that they now what happened. If that
does not happen you will get a mismatch and z/OS is not happy. If I re
Cloned systems immediately are assigned a new set of volid's. You may want to
consider assigning new sets of volids.
An alternative is to take the other systems devices offline at IPL, but if they move for
whatever reason that is one more thing to keep track of and maintain.

We have one CEC. We have four z/os lpars in a single sysplex and 2 Z/VM
lpars and one IODF. A few years ago we went to mod9's and mod27's with
dynamic paving on the Z/OS controlled by WLM. For the VM dasd we
uniquely clip as LX, and can see it from the Z/OS side. Up until
now we'
Greetings Listers,
I'm wrestling with a routing issue between a real switch, a
TCPIP service machine and another VM (on the same system) connected
through a vCTCA.
Assuming the formatting holds, here's a rough drawing of the connection:

You could change the SAIPL defaults on iplable volumes so that it would be
obvious to everyone which disk was IPLed. That is assuming that whoever ipls
will look at the comments before hitting PF10.
Also, make sure that no two of the systems have a matching volser in the spool
configuration. Th
I am looking for a way to verify at IPL time that z/VM is using the volumes
I intended.
It is possible that there are more than one volume with a volid of xxxRES
xxxWK1 xxxWK2 etc.
I could put something in the AUTOLOG1 PROFILE EXEC to do Q DASD and verify
that xxxRES is at address x'100' and xxxWK1
Hi Sergio,

Is there anything we need to do other than add another SPECIAL to our

Ideally, you'd like to have a separate device. Separate adapter
(separate slot) and plugged into a separate switch. Perhaps even
separate media (GBE LX vs. 1000Base-T).
Is there any performance improvement with GBE LX over 1000Base-T?

Fro
z/VSE will have similar protection that a Linux virtual machine from OSA or Switch
failures, since they will be redundant (assuming the redundant pieces are actually
separate devices).

IBM 9672-RC6 310 MIPs - Two z/VSE 3.1.2 systems, which will be upgraded this
coming weekend to 4.x. This system also housed a VM CA-TPX application that
most if not all our end users used to gain access to any of our other systems.
Thank you,

From what I understand, VSWITCH with layer 3 and multiple "real"
adapters works in "fail-over" mode. I thinking of putting some VSE on a
VSWITH using this method. My question, is what type of failures does it
recover from (or fail-over)?
Thanks,
