Thanks for your reply Rob.
I'm looking to use the new XIV box to for DB2 space in a DB2/WebSphere environment.
The I/O and channel utilization currently is not a problem, but CPU can be.
So I was more concerned with processor overhead.
We use full pack mdisks (DS8100) for the Linus guests and

I apologize; As you said, nobody (including me) reads the epilog.
No, I don't think the dates have changed again since then, although there
has been talk of extending daylight savings to year-round (which makes no
sense to me at all...)
Sorry for not actually reading through the code. I should
Where can I get a copy of GG22-9299. I have looked in IBM, but I can't
seem to find it.

I know that Bill Bitner has referenced this book in some of his
performance talks.
If you know someone that is a member of CMG they might can get you a copy.

Thanks again Rob.
The XIV rep told us no ECKD (yet?), something about not wanting to eat their own (DS8000).
It sounds to me the added CPU would be very small since the DB2 servers are not I/O heavy.
If you wouldn't mind...I could send some ESAMAP reports?
Thanks.

One can join CMG or one can Register which allows access (some) to Papers
that have been presented. In Search there, Mr Wicks has presented and is
referenced. The GG22-9299 won't be there but tons of capacity planning
ideas are. Won't be any sort of cookbook but you won't lack for reading

when I enter #Q proc shouldn't it show my Reserved Processors ?

Bill,
What O.S. reports Reserved?
z/VM 5.4 responds with processors: MASTER, ALTERNATE, DEDICATED, and
STANDBY.
z/VM is too outgoing to be considered reserved. But maybe z/VM 6.1 is
more shy?

A quick Google search didn't turn up anything obvious. Our z/OS folks
never heard of Reserved processors in z/OS (they see processors by the

Perhaps them are using the term Reserved for processors Dedicated to

It might help to go back to them and ask them to be a

In Performance Toolkit can the trend file be separated by dates? Right now
it is cumulative.
Also, I would like to keep trend files for specific number of days? For
example, I would like to delete trend data that is more then 45 days old.
Anybody wish to share their procedures.
Hello,
Yes, you can. You should launch a procedure every midnight for renaming of
the current common trend file (SYSTEM FCXTREND A1) to an unique name (f.e.
20110304 FCXTREND A1). Or move it to the store with new name. So, you will
have all days as you want. You can glue all interesting days

Don't I recall an append to Capacity Monitoring talking about keeping
performance data for 6 months?
