Hi Folks - Having laid off VM for 18 years, I would put myself back into the
ranks of a newbie. So, please bear with me.
Am trying to load z/VM 5.3 - loading from DVD pointing to g:/530vm.ins.
After a status=SUCCESS is achieved, the Integrated 3270 Console remains
blank with
a green cursor

So, I presume we're going to want z/VM 5.3 on our Flex box when it's
available.
We *do* have a deskside 3480/3490 drive, so we can use that if we
must. But it's slow and kind of cranky.
I was wondering whether it ought to be possible, instead, to do a DVD
install. As I understand it,
Short answer is yes, it should work.

We've got 5.2 on ours, via PWD.
The host is not 64-bit.

No, z/VM 5 works on Flex-ES. The problem is that if you have a commercial license then IBM will not
sell you a license to run it. If you have a developers (PWD) license then Fundamental will not renew
your Flex-ES license. So when the all the current licenses run out everyone is sed.

We were one of the last PWD licenses. It's not yet clear whether IBM
will license 5.3 yet for those of us in that boat. Doesn't look good,
though.

It is so obviously a benefit to both companies. A compromise is easy, neither has to give much.
Therefore, it is unlikely to be resolved.
But,if Fundamental would buy out IBM. :)

The best thing to do is to bug PWD about it (which I exactly what I
