i tried my hands on jedit around 1 yer ago and at that tie it was just a skelton editor and you have to be dependent upon lots of plugins to make some use of it. cant say for lastest verion of jedit. i am very happy with eclipse for java. For others like perl/php you may also try ultraedit. sounds
