Well the new power supply didn't do it. The G4 just sits quietly and just makes a faint clicking noise a few times or so til I turn it off. Must be the motherboard. I found a webpage with instructions on what needs to be done to get the board switched, now I just need to find a good motherboard.

Thanks Bruce, so far so good. The Pram battery tests at 3.6V just like it says on the battery, and the model appears to be a Graphics model AGP according to the apple files. I've found a replacement for the ACBel API 9841-291 (well at least it's an API 9841 with no 291 but otherwise picture p

Judith... what's this about having to reset the time and date? Maybe that's a clue to be remembering the general rule that if you're having HD trouble as well as clock trouble, to try replacing the battery in the iMac before considering all sorts of expensive -- and/or troublesome DIY -- stuf

Mike, what's this 'low profile' requirement about? What does that mean? I've got a snowmac and was trying to load 2 of the 256MB modules in it but it will only take one at a time. It doesn't matter which slot I put the module in. With just one module, I get along fine no matter which slot it
