Are you sure that's going to be up to the task
The Apple Store does not work on vintage machines. I had G5 iMac that died on
me and they would not work on it because it was 5 years old.

No Jack, she said she has a G4 iMac; that's the one with the guts in a
hemisphere and the integral monitor on a stalk! Also known as the flat
panel iMac (or the Anglepoise!)
I do have two of these, (which still work) but unfortunately I do not know
why she has been unable to upgrade it to 10.
I know this computer is very old (snowball), but I just need one for my
autistic grandson to use in his room. I just wanted to get him on-line and
off my computer watching Barney. So, I started installing updates to get to
Mac OS X 10.4.11 and use TenForFox, or at least try to get him on Youtube
Thanks Jim,
I pressed the reset button only once, yes - also, everything else on the
iMac works perfectly, somehow.
I'll try dismantling the system when I get a few hours spare. (Perhaps
swapping out the hard disk while I'm there - it's a bit small)

Joshua,
No, sorry, I didn’t address your issue directly. The fan shouldn’t start until
you press the power button. I just dove into the Apple service manual for that
iMac, and it doesn’t say anything about that issue. (I’ve messed around with
old cars for years, and quite often I run across a p
The screen is LVDS, but a few people have put Intel NUCs inside and
hackintoshed them, with some pretty good results.

Thanks for your reply, Jim.
The fan turns on the moment I plug it into the wall, though. (It only
started doing that about a month ago as far as I can tell.)
So it's definitely meant to do that before I even press the power button?

All iMac G4s have only one fan, which starts running as soon as the
computer is turned on and continues running at the same speed until the
unit is turned off. As iMac G4 cooling air enters from the bottom of the
case and exits at the base of the chrome stalk, it acts as a vacuum
cleaner. If you ta
Hi,
I've been having a very strange issue with my original 700MHz iMac G4 flat
panel recently in which the fans decide to start spinning at low speed the
moment I provide power to the system - even before pressing the power button.
I've reset PRAM, NVRAM, and even the PMU to no avail.

Hi, I am new to the group. I was given an Apple iMac G4 15" 700 Mhz #2. Mac
OS X, but not sure of version. I don't know the log in so I can't access
anything. Need to know how to change admin log in and password without
system discs. Is it possible?
Thanks in advance for advice.

I also had screws in the drive caddy that were just too big and
preventing the caddy settling in right. My local friend helped out
there too. I just installed 10.3 and will complete the rest today.

It's a thin strip of coax.

Anyone out there had any positive experience of repairing a broken
antenna wire ? The split is about an inch away from the logic board.
My confusion arose because the seller had accidentally connected the
dummy ide port on the imac while pinching the airport cable, after I
had started assembling i
Turned out to be a badly pinched airport cable that had snapped. I
guess there's no way of repairing that, eh ?

Sorry
RED 3 is a cable and it attaches to the RED 2 port on the board. I
have since found there is another slim cable on the board that also
connects to RED 2.
They appear to be some kind of ground wires.

The link above will show, albeit quite blurry, that RED 1 and RED 2
connect and RED 3 is a thin cable that attaches inside RED 2 on the
board. It looks like an IDE shaped port.
Any help is appreciated !

Hello,
I am in the middle of trying to put a new hard drive in when I've
opened the base and even though I was careful the slim cable that
seems to go into an IDE port on the logic board has come away.
Obviously this is bad - is it repairable ? It seems to me that the
cable going into the ide se
