It was dark at 6 AM and by 6:10 it was getting light and the signals were
fading except 774 was still in at 6:15. I even tried on my Collins 51J and I
could hear them. After 6:15 the IBOC stations wipe out most of the 700's.

Noted tuning by 620 khz at 1315 EDT that KPOJ 620 is off. Technically
issues or getting ready for IBOC? They were running IBOC for a while
then dropped it.
Nothing noted on 620 here, as the nearest stations are in Regina,
Wallace ID.

I left the SDR-IQ running all night and recorded 605-795 kHz. Spot
checks revealed the following from about 1100-1330 UT.
693 JOAB, pips talk in CBU splatter 1300
738 good carrier at times, audio around 1245
747 JOIB good at times, sometimes only 5-10 db weaker than KXL

A pirate station was interfering with private aircraft coms in
the Boston area. The FCC tracked it to a Brocton 3-decker
( like the ones tots fall out the windows) . The agent found the
xmiter in the cellar turned it off left a nice note to please
not turn it on again.

That is the FCC's normal proceedure. It was the same years ago. They
don't want to be too hardnosed, the first time around, until there is a
real interference issue. but they can. The next time they visit the
guy, they may take the transmitter.

I remember a story Chuck Boehnke told me about a pirate on FM in Hawaii
about 10 years ago. It was a pirate run by local Hawaiians that were
quite anti American. Anyway, some station in Hawaii reported them. The
local FCC offical did not do anything much as he did not want to deal

I guess if you are going to break the laws...break them all. Let's see,
a pirate on the air without a license (however, the FCC would not issue
them one anyway, so why not do it?), second selling ads is not legal on
an unlicensed station, but going back to the first point, you already
are breaking
This morning set the R-8B to 567 in hopes of recording some audio from a DU
station that was being heard faintly on the West loop. After checking the
tape, it revealed JOIK with a weak signal at 1317 ut. Station hung around till
1322 ut. Sometimes the Japanese station are heard better on
