Interesting Paul. I recall that when I was at Keflavik AFB, Iceland in 1955-56
I had similar results. Good reception to North America Oct thru New Years and
then nothing but South America for
most of January.

Joe,
Please let us know how well this unit works as a DX recorder. I purchased a
similar model a few months ago and tried to record radio audio via the mic
jack input. On the unit I tested, the internal mic could not be disabled so

Last evening and this evening, I gave the SRF59 a test on 1340. I have
a local at about 10 miles away w/ 1kw - WHAT. Ordinarily I can get a
reasonable null with the loop on the HQ-150 and I'll find a few ID's
from my TOH preset recordings.
With the SRF59, I can get enough of a null that I can hea
Hello,
I just took the Radio Shack portable receiver that
was a Christmas present --- the one that had the bad
image rejection problem --- and gave Radio Shack the
song and dance about it being a present, no receipt,
etc. They were nice about it and let me exchange it

Hey Dennis:
I've got an Eton e100, a rebrand of the Tecsun PL-200, coming in the mail
this week, which will then go through a lot o' scrutiny. Otherwise, eham

Conditions to NA over the past few days have been very poor. Apart from
the closest east coast stations everything else I've heard has been from
the Caribbean and S America - Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil.
In fact it has been more like May than January.

Yeah, CFRB does well to the south all right. Gets in here most days mixing
w/WIOI, & is often on top of them in the winter. WINS blows pretty strongly
this way at night, so it doesn't surprise me they shut down KLRA. But I
can't even log WMOX, which I used to hear frequently in Michigan in CFRB'

That's why CKPC is not likely to abandon 1380 for FM anytime soon,
if ever. When I lived in Barre, New York, I had an FM on virtually every
channel, being about equidistant from Rochester, Buffalo, and Toronto. Got
good clean TV on every channel but 3 too.

They had a Construction Permit to go from 350W on 1190kHz to 10KW on

They are likely to be a new catch for some folks at sunrise and sunset when
they power up or power down.

Russ,
Because of its convenience features, the DT200VX is now my dog-walk DX
machine. The speaker is a big plus for around the house when earbuds won't
do.
You can use your power button as a "backlight button". This doesn't solve
the clock issue as OFF remains backlight for 4 seconds before indic

Thanks, Scott.
Even though I am about 200 and 500 miles west of both
stations, I end up hearing both at the same time. At
night, WINS is stronger although CFRB can be heard. In
day, it's usually CFRB although WINS sometimes makes
the trip.

Scott,
I did not know WINS & CFRB chnged their patterns back in the 90s. I used
to hear CFRB every once in a while back in the 80s, but CBR was off more
in those days. I think it was before the CBC AMers went NSP. Now CHWO is
the most common Toronto staton for me. CJBC used to be common in the

Deane,
I guess the plan today is to get rid of a lot of the "extra" clutter
with many stations going to FM, but leaving enough to still cover the
country. That is not idea, but there should be one powerful CBC in every
major city, especially since the CBC is tax supported. So what in the
