It seems the HTC Magic has been pulled by Vodafone NZ from sale and their
website last night with (currently) no known reasons. There's a suspected
conflict over Google not appreciating their logo body painted on naked women
at the launch party, but as yet no real details.
I hope its not a perman
Of course, but it is exclusive to the Hero. Us Magic owners (same CPU
and RAM as HERO) don't have it available -yet.

I don't think the Hero version is unofficial. I'm pretty sure Adobe
worked very closely with HTC to port it to their device.

Right, I didn't mean to suggest loading ROM's are the way to go in
general - that is not the open part of Android after all. Just to say
that if there aren't official ways, there are plenty of people working
on making things trivial. And that must also put pressure on vendors,

Unofficially, I haven't had much success loading new ROM's onto either
of my phones (TMobile G1, and Google IO Magic/Ion). They are pretty
locked down actually.
So while the possibility of loading a new OS is there, there are still
roadblocks (similar to Jailbreaking the iPhone). I am trying to
Exactly. Very well demonstrated by what's coming if not officially,
then unofficially. I.e. Sense/Rosie UI, Flash support and multitouch

Bottom line, bummer you can't see it in the market, but due to the
awesome openness of the platform there are easy ways to
crap. (sigh). OK much thanks guys.

I have had one for a week now. I had the HTC Dream (G1) for a couple
of months, but didn't get the Android 1.5 update from my carrier.
Most notable differences with the Dream/G1:
- On screen keyboard is nice and quite easy to use.
- Physically much lighter and a bit smaller
- Looks far less
The G2 launches here in NZ tomorrow, sadly I fly out to .au for CITCON in
the weee hours of tomorrow morning so won't be able to pick one up till next
week.
Look forward to getting my mits on on one of them.

FWIW fellas, I've had an HTC Magic -- thru 3 -- for nearly a week. I
love it! The virtual keybaord seems quite accurate; the data usage is
less than I thought; the unit itself feels fairly solid.
The Android Market seems really clunky and hard to browse, tho.

Since tt doesn't sound like you fancy the UI much, you might want to
upgrade with the Sense UI (formerly known as Rosie) when HTC makes it
available for the Magic: http://androidoverview.com/?p=1014

I've got ~99MB available to android, so yes, it seems that you are correct.
That's a total bummer.
Well, I won't sell this to get a Scandinavian version, that's for sure.

Thanks for the comparison Victor,
Are you using Scandinavian keyboard? No better example of the
