2. choose defalt
3. pick from the list when you tab the mute synth option
4. right click and choose add keystroke
5. choose a keystroke like control+shift+m.
6. hit ok and save the file.

I have my new pc with XP PRO and jaws 8.0.2173 installed. I don't hear the
messages automatically red in preview pane anymore. On my old pc it was ok. I
hear just "read only edit". This is my configuration it OE concerning this
problem.

One way to temporarily silence JAWS is to turn off speech in the verbosity
dialog. First move into the program you are going to use to record. Press
Insert with V to bring up the dialog. Press the end key to move to the end
of the list of items and you will move to the "speech synthes
Do an insert v in the application you want Jaws silenced in and then type
the letter s for synsethizer. Press your spacebar and then press enter.
This will silence your speech.
To get Jaws back, just do an insert v again and speech will once again be
activated.
