I'm a little confused. When muting JAWS, that's not the same as unloading
JAWS, correct?
If that's the case, if you mute JAWS and then let a sighted person use your
computer, they may run into problems. I say that because when JAWS is
running, and when I let a sighted person use the computer,

You are correct my friend. I only mute jaws so I do not for example when
listening to yahoo/video news

You can also set the mute synthesizer speech in keyboard manager. that's what i

the letter s for synsethizer. Press your spacebar and then press enter.
This will silence your speech.
To get Jaws back, just do an insert v again and speech will once again

3. pick from the list when you tab the mute synth option
4. right click and choose add keystroke
5. choose a keystroke like control+shift+m.
