I think you don't need an Apache if you have the
latest version of Tomcat. However, you could also
use Tomcat together with an Apache, it depends on
your needs.
Regarding on your question on how you could invoke
the index.jsp located in tomcat\webapps\myApp, you

Only for the first question Apache isn't needed! Tomcat works as a
Web Server and it can run as a standalone Web&Java server. But it is not as
quick as Apache... so Apache is recommended for static content distribution
and Tomcat for JSP application deployment (is it right written???)
