How about a new subject, or perhaps an old one revisited. I have always
felt 81JM is span limited (though she sure fits into a crowded hanger
nicely). Has anyone put winglets on a KR? Did it improve efficiency or low
speed performance? Do they have to be "just right" or will flat plates
help?

That should read "Hoerner" wing tip.

Met-Co-Aire says that its Hoerner wingtips "will add to the performance
of your aircraft." They say the Hoerner tips will increase aircraft
range by 1 to 2 percent, increase the rate of climb by 60 fpm, boost
cruising speed by 3 to 5 mph, cut takeoff distance by 15 to 20 percent,

Hi all,
I made my wintips with a 45 Degree instead the 90 degree tip. A bit like
hoerner tip. I bit from both sides, i like a bit of a winglet and the hoerner
tips together. With our speeds I think it is not that importand…but what do you
like? Is a big winglte easy to store? So we made our ow
---Hi Larry. On my KR, I made tips, on my home made
foam and glass wings, like the Diehl, and with the plans called for 3
Degrees washout. In doing stalls and testing, The plane would shudder
and shake, and almost slap you in the face, to let you know it was
about to stall
Thanks to all for your responses. I am awed by the quality of Stef's
workmanship. Guess I will stick with my existing Hoerner tips as it appears
I won't do much better.

I thought I might clarify the process I used to build Hoerner tips and
correct one misstatement I made if anyone considers building them for
simplicity.
I started by sanding the top surface of the wing with the foam exten
