Hi All,
The book published by OIDFA on 'Point Ground Lace' gives details of the
few differences in Chantilly and Bayeux. While Chantilly seems only to
have used silk, white and cream are known as well as the usual black,
Bayeux used cotton, linen and silk, not all together. The other

Hi, Ruth,
Are you sure it is a lace bobbin-winder? It could very well be a textile bobbin
winder. I've got some big bobbins from my grandmother's family (never found out
who used them) which look like a very elongated double cone (sorry, I don't
know the mathematical name!!), the length being abo

carefully.) I have not used it for corners, I usually do corners with a

Helen, you bring up an interesting possibility. I measured the opening at
the end of the bobbin holder and it is quite narrow (1/16th inch, 3 dm).
The opening in that appendage (for lack of a better word) is about 2-1/4
inches (5-1/2 cm long) and the entire appendage is 3-1/2 inches (8-1/2 cm)

As someone who has a sewing machine fixed on my table in my studio, my
first thought when seeing those binder rings in the ebay auction was that
they are perfect for sewing machine bobbins! As a "future" bobbin lace
maker, I would have never thought of lace bobbins if it hadn't been
mentioned
