I have another question. I notice that the searches done by legacy are
mostly concentrated in US. My ancestry is from the Netherlands and Germany
and I need to research these country's archives. How would I do that

Hello again listers,
In reference to my last message about my user files: My

Hi Myrna,
I'm not exactly sure what you are saying.
Do you have a folder D:\leg usr files where you've been copying your

Then you that up monthly to G drive?
The active usr files are in D:\Legacy
They only work in the same folder as the program.

Sorry to hear you lost your settings. Once you do get your Index View

Hi Mike,
I'm not sure what the problem is. I have 6.0.0.133, too. But I've been
doing it at least since version 6 was released. Click on the Index
tab, so that you are in the Index View. Now instead of right-clicking
over Full Name for example, you can click on the Options button at
the right.
Mike, I just reread your message, sorry for misunderstanding. Perhaps
you don't get that intermediate Customize menu because you haven't
saved any settings yet. Try saving the settings and see if that
changes the right-click result. (It has been so long since I saved

As the situation I had was not resolved (persisted after rebooting), I

I am Sorry about your losses. When you first close
down Legacy, make it always ask DO YOU WANT A BACKUP?
The next time create a file name that is to be saved.
Make it simple, like mine is MyDB. If you want to save
multiple versions then make a name like MyDB20070625,
which saves on 'today's date',
I have seen others talk about the user files and I just now went

Bill,
If you have MS Access 2000, you can open the .IGI file in Access and compact
the file.
When you save entries and then delete them, the database doesn't
automatically release the place holder for that data.

Hi Philip,
Legacy currently doesn't have the equivalent of the TMG witness.
It's something on the wish list.

In Legacy to record the information, you need to set up an Event and
then copy that Event using

Hi Ursulah,
The Legacy internet searches can be customised.
First you need a relevant searchable online database.
Then follow the instructions in the Legacy Help file.
The example used is Ellis Island, which again is a US database, but
the instructions are very detailed.
If you click on the

Hi Pat,
Legacy supports very limited tabs. These however don't convert if you
are wanting to make web pages.
To enter a tab you need to use CTRL + Tab.
I have found that if I use spaces and a Tab rather than two tabs
where more than one is necessary I can get things to line up in
