Hi Greg,
You've got it. That's my experience.
I do make sure I have backups of both files clearly labelled in the
filename before I merge them so that if I happen to mess up the merge
it's easy to start again.
If you have some of these individuals in the new file already in your
file (as

I have recently experienced a hard drive failure which required purchasing a
new drive and re-installing all programs including Legacy.
Luckily, I have good backups of my data and didn't lose any of my family
history research or photos.
In reading posts of the past, many people have
Jay,
I am making the assumption that your sub-folders correspond to those which you
had when you stored the photos elsewhere.
That being so, all that is needed is to select a 'photo-place' in Legacy and
you will see a pop-up saying the photo cannot be found; elect to search for

Thanks Ron,
Yes, the subfolders to match what they were before.
Do I understand correctly, that I only need to correct 1 item from each
folder and the entire folder will be recognized?
If this is the case there should only be about 2-300 folders and will
greatly reduce my time.
Thanks
Jay,
Yes that should do it. With 200-300 sub folders I really hope you know what is
where :-)

If you right-click on any child (in Family View), and then select CHILD

Make sure you have the correct child highlighted (it often comes up with a

I've been through this and have 1 suggestion 1 comment.
First, if you have not already made a smaller byte version of pictures for
Legacy, this is a good time to do it. I disregarded the advice to do this
many pictures ago and eventually got to when books reports with pictures

renaming all the pics to fit into one folder only (well, maybe 2 or 3).
Instead of having folders and sub-folders make those names part of the file

Sherry, I do want to keep the [--?--] as that helps alert me to unknowns in
reports and elsewhere. I followed your suggestion and deselected Check for
illegal characters in name fields on the options screen. That apparently

I agree with resizing and (somewhat) with renumbering.
1. I created a My Gene Archives directory (or whatever you want to name
it) that is separate from My Pictures (though some photos may be in both).
This holds photos, PDF, doc, text, and any other items I want to keep for
Hi Philip,
With complicated situations, you just have to work through it
carefully, person by person, relationship by relationship. Make sure
you have the correct set of parents (or father or mother and
unknown/blank) showing before adding or linking a child. If you are
linking a child, make
If I change info in my legacy file, do I have to recreate a new webpage, delete
the old one on the server and upload the entire file again? that's 1500 htm
