How does one sort events globally after they have been entered?
Also, is there a way to set the program so that events are sorted in date
order as they are entered?
Thanks,

I find that I asked the same question about globally sorting Events by date in
September of 2007.
Ron Ferguson suggested the following:
FileFileMaintenanceCheck/RepairProceed and check the box Sort All Events by
Date
This works! But it has occured to me that the procedure may only do the
That's an option when you do a Check/Repair.

I know it's possible to supress details for living people and change their
name to living. Is it possible to just not export anything about them
at all by clicking a box, or can this only be done by search/tag?
Thanks,
Kris

If I do want anything about some Living people or anyone else then I prefer
to do it by making a copy of my file then deleting them using Search /
Advanced Tagging / Advanced Deleting.
One problem is that if, for example, you were given information on what part
of the family in confidence then
Clicking Options on the Events screen when events are entered enables them to
be sorted. The black arrows on the bottom right may be used to move a selected
event up or down.

Kris,
You can, of course, mark them Private in which case they will not be shown as
Private with no details, provided show private events is not selected when
compiling reports. There is a box for this on the Individual Screen.

Hi, Ron -- I know about marking people private but I was hoping for
something more streamlined than doing them one by one. Maybe I can do a
search/tag and mark the search list private?
Thanks!

Kris,
Sorry Kris, but I know of no method of doing that globally or automatically.
I'm afraid that search/tag is the only way I can see.

Thanks, Ron -- Now that I've been playing with search/tag more, and I'm
getting the hang of it, it's no big deal. It's just a matter of getting
the hang of it. :-)
Actually, it's working even better because I have folks that definitely
couldn't be living anymore and it's helping me find
Kris,
Do you know that you can globally set the definitely deceased? See ToolsSet
Living. This will also change ggrandparents etc with no date of birth. By
default the maximum age for an individual is set at 120 but this can be
changed using CustomiseData Entry.

Hi, Ron -- Yes, I know about that one. :-)

I just recently upgraded to the Del. version in anticipation of getting an HP
PDA so I can use it in the field when I do research.
I have just begun to clean up my data base and am grateful for all the help in
sorting etc. Thanks for letting me spy on all of the ideas.

Hello and welcome aboard. If your HP PDA is Windows powered, could I
suggest Pocket Genealogist for it? I have and I love it.
Here are a couple URLs that will explain Pocket Genealogist:

Yes, it most definitely will! In fact, I will go one step further.
Pocket Genealogist is already being tested on the upcoming version of
Legacy, and will be probably be ready by the time it comes around. Btw,
I have an iPaq , and I love it. I think you will like yours.
