If you have followed this entire conversation, this has been clarified.
Yes, you can install Legacy on an external drive as long as you
understand that Legacy is also installing dll's and registry keys on
your C-drive.

Hi.
My sort of old computer is filling up so I bought a 100GB external hard drive.
I had hoped to put my Legacy program and all the related data, photos, scans,
etc onto this new E drive. I hoped to get all my Legacy stuff off the C drive
totally.
I successfully moved Legacy there and all

You do realise that you can't
You can't install Legacy on an external hard-drive. You can copy all
the installed files from your C-drive to the E-drive and then use the
files on the E-drive and back up the files to that location and move
your E-drive to other computers that have Legacy installed, if you want
to do that.

Unless something has changed, this isn't true. I just looked at my old
PC and I have an old version of Legacy installed on the E: drive (2nd

If I'm reading this right, your 'external' hard-drive was actually a
second internal HD. I believe the reason that it won't install to an
external hard-drive is that there's no registry there. It's a portable
device like a flash-drive, just bigger.

I uninstalled Legacy program from my C drive and just use left over
files ie: data, backup on my C as a secondary backup to my new M
drive. I SUCCESSFULLY installed Legacy 7 on my new external hard drive
and then copied my files to the new drive. I'll get a flash drive and
make backups to that as
Did OP, Joan, get lost in this fray? I think what we got to is that you
cannot install Legacy on an external drive, independently. It will
still put registry keys and dll's on your C-drive. Is that where we
are? For Joan's sake, I mean.

What does Legacy ask you to do when it can't find an image?

So if they are all in one folder reattaching one will do for the lot.
I have Legacy installed on my F:\ Drive which is a external drive. I
have never had a problem, even with attaching pictures in My Pictures.
Thanks,
