When I do an ancestor report, I am getting several duplicates, and some
multiple duplicates of the same person. I understand one situation, where
brother and sister are both in my direct line of ancestors. But, the rest
of the occurrences, I don't know where to start to figure out what I have
done
Thanks, I didn't even know about that tool. I'll see if I can get to the bottom
of it, using that tool.

Brian, I used the tool to set relationships (it's actually my husband's
line, so I set him as the starting person). But I do not see a + sign to
right click on. I am looking on the Family screen; should I be somewhere
else?

I know it is possible to create your own timeline but is it possible to edit
those provided? Edward V came to the throne in 1910 and died 1936. It was his
son Edward V!!! that abdicated! See England rulers.

I have Legacy installed on my desktop computer and maintain all my

The desktop computer is configured with TWO physical HD's --- a SSD "C"

Beg to differ. It was GEORGE V not
Okay, I went to the "loop" that I know is right, and even there, there is
no + sign next to the relationship, above the name. Is it possible that it
is because I am using Legacy 6.0? Also, I fear it is more involved than
just multiple relationships...there are several cases, and they are being
Okay, thank you. I have used the Relationship Calculator many times in 6.0, but
never thought to use it to research a looping problem.
I was new to Legacy when the first update came after 6.0. Some of the technical
"talk" on the user group scared me off--I was barely understanding 6.0, without
Barbara,
The default location for Legacy 8 data is in your Documents folder
/Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data
You can keep it wherever you like but it would be best NOT to keep it in
C:\Legacy\Data with your Legacy 6 data files
1) so you aren't confused which files are Legacy 6 format and

I keep my data and image files In Dropbox. That way I can access
everything no matter where I am. Even from a library or friends computer.

I think it may be best to move everything from D: to C: on your
desktop. Otherwise on your desktop it will look for media on D:. Then
when you copy the family data files to the laptop I think(?) will still
expect media to be on D: (I think so anyway - I haven't tested this).
So I'd suggest
fyi - my computer is running Windows 7, and it is so "old" (10 yrs) it
won't run Windows 10. But it runs just fine, I'm mostly happy with it
(though I am starting to get "the itch" for a new one . . . ) My wife's
computer is also running Win7. I COULD upgrade her's, but for ease of
consistency
Very helpful information. If I dive in, I'm sure I'll have questions along the
way.

It REALLY doesn't matter which drive your data is on on each computer.
You just tell Legacy where your data is (Options - Customise 6.1 and
6.2) on both computers.
There is clever stuff in Legacy 8 that facilitates having media on both
computers recognised just by making sure 6.2
One question already: in 6.0, all the data is stored in the Legacy folder,
which on my computer resides directly on C:\. Is that also where the data is
stored (default) on 8? If I wanted to go cold turkey from 6 to 8, do I download
8 from the website, or do I have to buy it? Once installed, can
I've just updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. Seems to me much like
Windows 7 with the Start Menu back to words for most of it.
I'm now enjoying what is basically a new computer as I saved all my data
and took my laptop to a computer tech and asked him to put a clean
install of Windows 10 on
Barbara,
No one is forcing you to go to Windows 10 from Windows 7. There are ways
to stop being offered Windows 10 but you probably need someone more
familiar with computers to implement them. If they don't know how, they
can Google it.
Legacy 8 installs in a completely different place to Legacy
