I can confirm something similar even in Beta 174 and will also submit a report.
When I right-clicked delete wife’s mother, it did so correctly though.

I'm using version 9.0.0.169 and tried to right click delete a wife's
father. Result was the husband was deleted instead. I've reproduced the
problem with the sample database and found if you right click to delete the
wife's mother it would delete the wife instead.

The Find A Grave search algorithm only matches on EXACT equals. When I get
No Records Found I click on the Refine Last Search option in the left
column and modify the fields used in the initial attempt. I've found that
Middle Names cause many of my misses. Also adding Location Details help
