I agree with Bob. I have seen people use nicknames only used by the
individual's parents like "Buddy" or "Princess" as actual aka's. A nickname
to a few should not count. I know of a man who went by Honey. No one can
recall his real name because that is all they knew him by. THAT would be a

Another thing to be aware of - if you import you Legacy database into
another package (direct import, not GEDCOM) the married name AKAs get
duplicated. I have direct imported my database into two different programs
and my married name AKAs were duplicated in both of them.

By The Way - don't go overboard w the A.K.A. (Also Known As) field. If
you try to come up with every possible combination of how they MAY have
been known, you will have a very long name list and will probably go
crazy trying to come up with all the combinations. I suggest you just
list the ones t

Actually there is a reason to use the space. Your search will yield
everyone who's FIRST name and middle name match the search criteria.
With a leading space it will ignore the first name and on

If you only want to locate the middle name then follow Sherry's instructions
except put a space before the "What to look for" name so that it will not pick

Some of you are "purists" when it comes to historical place names. To me
getting the person's name right is the single most important item in genealogy.
That is why I always try to use the actual birth name in the main name fields
and utilize the aka fields for the nicknames, etc. Jerry in Mi
You can't through the Name List or Index View but you can search for
the middle name.
Click on the Search icon, select the Detailed Search tab
Look for whom Individual
Where to look Given Names
How to look Contains
What to look for
That will give you a Search L
Besides putting their most commonly "known" name in quotes in the GIVEN
field, you should also put their "known" name in the AKA list. Then, in
the name list (and/or in the Index), you can turn on "include alternate
names". This way the person will show up in your list twice (or three
times, etc
OK, thanks. More complicated but I'll try it.

Is there a way to search for a middle name in the index? Some folks go by
their middle name and when I don't rem their 'unused' first name I have to
search through the surname. Just a nuisance with the relatively small tree I'm
working on now, but will be a bigger problem when I start working
