Hi Jessica, If you are using a document as a source of information for your database, and it's not too long (such as the two-page essay you mention), I would transcribe the essay into the Text/Comments field of the Source Detail, so it was attached to each item of data you extracted from it. That

I have a copy of a letter written to his brother by my great-great grandfather while he was in the hospital during the Civil War. I'm entering that as a Military history event since it discusses his experiences in the hospital. There's not much in it to use as a source for other information though
