The county verifier seems to use the dates given by Animap for counties in Kentucky. Animap shows several counties for Kentucky in existence before statehood in 1792. I was the one who worked on that database. "The Handybook for Genealogists" was the primary source for the county information along with Kane's "American Counties" and numerous state and county websites. Animap was consulted if there were still questions about counties. If the Handybook indicate
