That's what I do, too. I can then enter "State" in the Description if I have a
state census.

I have mine by year, by state, by county... but now you have me
re-thinking that. again! ;)
Luckily, if I change my mind, it's just a change in the name of the source. So
far, I haven't had any problems finding the one I need in the list.

They are in alphabetical order
One census event. In the Description field I identify US Federal or British.
The date I use is the actual enumeration date but just the year would be fine
if that is all you want. The Place field is, obviously, the city or township,
county and state of enumeration. In the Notes field I record th

I would suggest that you look at the Sample Family File. Geoff has
done an excellent job with great examples of how to create sources.

I have a related question to using SourceWriter for US Census data. If I use
the template as written, how do I differentiate between the source for San
Bernardino, California and the one for Renssalear, New York? Just curious as
to what others do.
My personal solution at this time is to name
I use Jurisdiction City box and type in (for instance) - Tecumseh,
Johnson, Nebraska
and I do have a fact/event for each Census with the boxes filled in:
Census, (no description), date, location in full; and I transcribe the
information in the census in the Notes section.
Would be happy to show e
Tessa,
The SourceWriter templates do not have a place for the State and County
in the detail section. Do you enter the state and county as part of the
Jurisdiction City? If not where do you enter that information?

Yup. Using the SW template you will have an entry for every county.

Tony,
How a census is recorded is a personal choice. I suggest that you try each
recommendation and decide which method you prefer.
Personally, I record each Census as an Event in each person's life.

This is one of those personal decisions but - I have a lot of people
in the US Censues so I am a lumper as far as censuses go - I use the
information for the 1930 Census but do not fill in the city, county or
state until I get to the detail section of the entry. Try both and
see which you like bet
