I've just fixed a dead screen 70 with exactly the same symptoms as yours: no
light on the display, no reflective pixels, no picture, but the external
monitor working fine.

Um - one thought with the x install - is it X3.6 or X4.whatever?
The XF86Config I sent was for 3.6 (or maybe even 3.5) and 4 does things
completely differently.
