Some additional networking tests that might be revealing:
FTP from zLINUX2 to zLINUX1
FTP from x86Linux to zLINUX1 and
FTP from x86Linux to zLINUX2.
These tests might reveal if there is something different between the two
Linux guests and help to focus on which might be having the problem.

The directory statements haven't changed since the initial install. The
LVM which included 205 & 206 was configured during that install and was
fine up until recently. In fact I have another copy of this system with
the same configuration but not with these errors.

I use Regina to link/mount my rpm/iso disks and unmount/detach them when
I'm done.
It seems to work fine, but it is rather very low utilization (a flurry
of activity for a couple days every 3-6 months or so), but I don't know
if it would break under heavier utilization.

and your portable LVM needs to be supported by your guest's LVM code
