We run WebLogic on zLinux. We had to beg and beg to get RHEL 3.0
certified. It took about 6 months after the Intel cert. So yes,
mainframe certs from BEA are WAY behind.
As for your cost question, you'd have to talk to a BEA rep. As the best
of my knowledge, they are still pricing by the

Has anyone on the list tried incorporating Linux on z into their
enterprise Veritas installation (if you have one)?

I have a RH AS 3.0 guest (2.4.21-27.0.2.EL) that boots up seemingly

We are using RHEL AS 3.0 (update 3) on a z990, under z/VM 4.4 and have
been experiencing a strange problem related to snmp and various other
programs and utilities. Take a look at this netstat output for port 161:
Active Internet connections (only servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address
You can boot Linux from SCSI disks in VM 4.4. I've done it with RHEL
3.0 and SLES9. There is a great redbook describing the howto: SG24-6344

I've been testing Red Hat 4 beta. I was wondering if anyone knows where
to find a comprehensive list of all the values that can be set in the
PARMFILE during installation. I have these set:
root=/dev/ram0 ro ip=off ramdisk_size=4
DASD=0200
Does anyone know an effective way to migrate users from one Linux system
to another? Specifically from a Suse system to a Red Hat system, taking
into account, userids, UIDs, groups, GIDs, passwords, and home
directories.
Thanks,
Eric Biggs

Has anyone utilized IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand for the zSeries with
their Linux installations? If so, what were your experiences and how
did you implement it?

I have read how to copy an existing Linux image to an FCP attached
SCSI drive, then IPling it. This is well documented in Redbook
sg246344. I didn't read anything that explains how (or if you can)
install a fresh image onto an FCP drive.
Any thoughts?

We have a handful on Linux guests (20 or so) running in our z/VM 4.4
environment. Yesterday, for some strange reason, 4 of them started
having terrible response times. Here are some of the ping times. These
were issued from another guest.

For anyone that is using Red Hat AS 3.0 for zSeries, can you provide
feedback (positive or negative) about your experience with the product?
Many thanks.

I'll try to address some of Brandon's original questions:
1. We have noticed that Java applications will hog the CPU if you let
it.
2. We use z/VM on our 2 IFL LPAR. It works great. We are very pleased
with its performance. I can't say whether Java would run better without
z/VM in the middle,
I thought this is a great idea so I went out and found the presentation (thank you
very much).
However, I have run into a little snag. In following the directions in the
presentation, get this error when I try to label the tapes with Amanda. (BTW I am not
an Amanda expert by any means):
