I actualy did enter a bogus MAC address, but it did contain the correct MAC
Prefix, in the parm file and it did pick up the REAL assigned MAC Address
from VM, and the installation went on its merry way

To the prompt I only hit the ENTER key without entering any MAC Address,
and the process goes on, that means it took the default value. If I enter
the MAC Address in the Parmfile, I would have to make sure it is unique.

Thanks for all those who responded. I installed SLES10 SP2 and that fixed
the problem. There must have been some incompatibitlities with z/VM 5.4 and
SP1 base.

Do you have MAINT's 51D disk accessed R/W as MAINT's D drive?
In MAINT's profile exec there should be a "ACC 51D D" statement.

and then starts to considerably slow down at
the Installation point and seems to hang at the configuration option of
partitionning. It just sits at this point with the VM virtual machine
taking about 20%CPU.
