Well, Bastille is not a distribution, just a script that does a number
of common configuration changes to improve the security of a system. It

Thanks to all for their comments and help. Special thanks to Rick for the

I will give it a try as soon as I get a chance.

Merry Christmas Happy Holidays to all.
I have installed SUSE SLES10 under z/VM. This is my first time installing
Linux.
Is there a version of ooRexx that runs on SLES10 (64 bit)? I found an x86
version, but I think it is only 32 bit.
I also can't seem to find Bastille for SLES10. Yast can't find it on the

Suse distributed Bastille with SLES8 and SLES9 (IIRC), but it didn't
work. When I called for support, I was told it was known to be broken,
and not supported on 390/z.

Mark inspired me, so I fetched the source to OOREXX and built it.
No problem. It seemed to build a little cleaner on my FreeBSD rental
than on my SuSE (mix) ... subjectively. (Got less warnings from the
compiler.) It's heavily C++ based, so will have an affinity for the

Thanks - The Curses one installed clean and works with Bastille. Tk has some

This problem was identified and fixed months ago. The patches were slow

you should see there are two patches for Bastille attached to this

Our linux/86 people have added Bastille to their security plan and I need to
look at it for Linux/390.
Has anyone installed the latest Bastille on their Linux/390?
Does anyone have a source RPM for it?

I tried Bastille from SLES8 some time ago, and it didn't work. I opened a problem

Here's the response I got from Suse on my question about Bastille:
many thanks for your enquiry to SuSE S/390 support.

A while back I recall during our POC that Bastille-Linux came highly
recommended. I have used this utility to secure Red Hat systems in the
past. In looking at the web site I see no mention of SuSE support. So,
my question is will Bastille-Linux work on SuSE and more specifically will
it work
I tried the Bastille RPM that came with SLES8, and it flat didn't work. When I opened
an issue with Suse for it, they told me it wasn't supported. I didn't bother to ask
why they included the RPM at
all.

Much better!! Minor path problems, but that (the tar file) worked.

Paul, the method I use all the time is the x-windows. If you are using the
Curses and the rpm from Bastille doesn't work try the tar file. This one
works in class (curses tar) without problems. Carlos :-)

We have Bastille running on SuSE. RedHat is supposed to be the distro for

Paul, here is a piece of the workbook that we are using in class:
The site recommends using version is 1.3.0 RPMs, however, they do
not work with the s390 architecture, so the source tar file,

Carlos,
I installed the BastilleCurses and Tk rpms, and used the
