The solution is the next:
I got print with my Stylus Color 440 in black with the configuration made
automaticly by YaST2, but when i changed the aspfilter configuration with YaST and
choose the "stcolor" driver i get the color.

I work with SuSE 6.4 too. Time ago i decided charge the stock 2.2.14 kernel for
experimenting and learn about kernel. I installed the standard 2.2.18 without problems.
Maybe you must enable or disable some feature in menuconfig. My experience says that

Kernel 2.4.2 need PPP version 2.4.0 or higher and my system have installed the
2.3.11 version.
