After changing motherboards in one of my boxes to a Via VB601, I forgot to
disable the UDMA setting in the bios. This is needed because this mobo,
my Seagate 6.5Gb drives, and UDMA don't mix.
The result was the kernel segfaulted/panicked after fscking /dev
How do I add a spare disk to an existing RAID?

Most importantly though, our Web Application (heavy random type IO - MySQL
database) runs real fast.. I'm doing some stress tests today with SSL
enabled to see how it copes under pressure.

Does anyone here use a MegaRAID Hardware RAID controller? If yes, what is
your performance like? On a 500Mb file copy (from sda -> sda) we get around
2.5Mb per second.. it seems very low. At worst, we have had 456k per sec.

With the LH4, you can infact disable the AMI Megaraid and access the Symbios
directly.. however - we want to use the RAID...
I've had enough of all this guessing though - I'm going to take it to bits

Yes, there are a number of adapters that support Fibre Channel, and
there's at least some attempts in Sparclinux to support a full FC4 module.

Hot plugging would be good, but a rotating mirrors backup (this
is similar to what Auspex has been known to do) really
doesn't solve your static/consistent locking problem.
You need to perform locking at the file level, if not block level.
A lot of backup packages will do this, with greater or l
failure or success from anyone using this controller under Linux.
