In my experience, using the object model is limited to the same Farm (as
suggested by many others). The web services provided by SharePoint are
reasonably powerful, and I don't really see any reason not to make use
of them in your scenario.
However, I'll give you the best tip I've come across

I thought I'd post an update to a previous issue...
Some of you may recall the problem I was having last week with users
being unable to edit content on an internet-facing WSS site. The
symptoms were that editing list items, or web part pages, causes a "The

Of Crabbe,
Can you please indicate the type of workflow that you've set-up:
out-of-the-box (e.g. Three-state, Approval etc), one built via
SharePoint Designer or one built with WWF and Visual Studio?

Rather than have the 'User' as a field on your form, you can assign the
value to the 'User' field in the workflow based upon the Modified By
field when the form is submitted. This would prevent a user from
impersonating another user by entering false details on the form.
This is relatively easy
I've seen something similar done with an HTTP Module that records hits

Afternoon all,
I've created an event handler to set item-level permissions on Task list
items such that only the Assigned To user or group is able to edit the
Task item. So far, so good.
Unfortunately, doing this also creates permissions for the same user or
group at a site level. Each user o

I've tried [id] but get the error: The formula contains reference(s) to

The Title column is a PITA. It's a Single Line of Text by default and
it's type can't be changed. Even if you change the name of the column,
it's still called Title internally.
However each list item will have an internal ID associated with it. You
can see this in action when you open the Disp

I had to do this recently with WSS and had the added hassle of trying to

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm having severe problems with SPD
falling over regularly any time I modify a web part page. I installed
SP1 and still the problem persists.
Thanks,

Perhaps I'm missing something but can't you create a custom field that
takes the truncated (255 characters) version of your longer field and
sort on that? I mean how many times are you going to find that the
256th character is key when sorting a series of values?
Just a thought...
David.
