"NBP" is PXE jargon.

DHCP is designed so that you can use Vendor Class IDs to isolate
particular subsystems; it's a simple idea but effective because
co-operating VCI aware clients and servers can agree to ignore others no
matter how braindead.
The only real problem comes in allocating leases on addresses, where

AFAIK, it has to be compiled in kernel. I'm using hdparm (-d1 /dev/hda)

I have no login at the beginning of LTSP, but I think I'm logged in as
root (after booting the bash is already prompting).
I tried to set the

Hello novarasari,
If you have I/O problem, is it ISA card? For PCI, IO is not
necessary.
BTW, what is actually your dhcpd.conf file? Post it for a check.

Hello list,
Having gotten my LTS up and running, and actually it was pretty straight
forward, I am now noticing something that is bothering me. When I log in as
a user I am able to access the server directories. I was under the
assumption that when a user logged onto a LTS terminal that they were

But I can mount, read and write on the partitions. Should this be
possible if the chipset is not supported by the kernel?

That's correct.
The files under /opt/ltsp/i386/

I think, I would need such additions to the standard kernel:
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ADMA=y
CONFIG_IDEDMA_PCI_AUTO=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PIIX=y

Yes it should be possible.
Hi again!
We now have a network like this:

When trying to run application remotly (from client2 at server1) the

Sounds like XDMCP is not configured correctly on the server you are
connecting to via the -query from X on the client. You need to make
sure that XDMCP is enabled in the graphical login manager you have
chosen to use on the server and that the server is in graphical mode

Hal,
The sleep 300's are coming from the /bin/start_printer script.
It sits in a loop. This way, if the printer daemon dies,
it will get respawned by init. If you aren't using a printer,
then it sleeps for 5 minutes and respawns.

Follow-up to my own post...
Now that I've had a chance to look at the new kernel from work
(bandwidth!), I see that the root/linuxrc file in the initrd has not yet
been modified to include either of Ken Yap's patches.
Don't despair, though! Without having to recompile dhclient, you can

Hi,
Ive had a look through the mailing list and
couldn't find anything about this, Im sure it must have been asked before so
even a pointer to the corect posting would be great.
Im new to LTSP (tried it a couple of times in the

Hi
Just another one that I cant solve (I think there
will be a lot more in the near future).
Having booted up my laptop with a boot floppy and
LTSP I played around for a while and then decided to close down the laptop to go
to bed. After loging out I clicked on 'Shutdown' typed in my r
log out, turn power off. julius

Hello Everyone,
I am running Mandrake 8.1 and am trying to attach one client (1G processor 128MB

DHCP server and downloads the etherboot image wrapped in a form PXE can

Sorry,
I discovered what the problem was. In rom-o-matic, I had specified
REQUIRE_VCI_ETHERBOOT. I took this out, obtained the rom and now it works.
The thing is, I am using my bosses win2000 network and he uses dhcp for his
windows clients. I read the document at:
